Aspiring New Artist: James Lion - So Different

Hey Yall,

I was digging through my timeline on twitter and I saw that Chrisette Michele RT'ed a fellow tweeter (@TheJamesLion) asking her to check out his music. I'm always on the look out for new music, preferably by new artist, so I headed on over to youtube for a listen. I have to confess, I was a little leery, because I'm sent music all the time that I usually end up shutting it down after 10 or 15 seconds, but this was on another level and I'm digging it, so much so, that I decided to share it on Heavy Rotation.

A little background on the James Lion, he is a 21, inspiring artist from St. Louis, with dreams of making it in the industry. Not only is he a singer/rapper but he also writes and produces. His developing talents can be seen in tracks like "So Different" which is defiantly "alternative hip-hop", at least to me it is. Lyrics that are straight to the point and a steady high hat, simple piano chord and synthesized bass and guitar cords, all work together in pulling the track through from beginning to end.

I can see where his sound and artistry, if developed correctly, will be compared to a mixture of Bob Marley, Kanye, Will.i.am, Kid-Cudi, Wyclef, Wale and Frank Ocean, but yet So Different. If he stick to his own style and uses his creativity to drive his work, I don't think the industry will be able to pigeon-holed him, but becoming the artist that he so wishes to me.
